Library Café Closure Criticised by Labour Candidate

Wednesday 26 March 2014

Emily Brothers, Labour’s Parliamentary Candidate for Sutton and Cheam and Council Candidate in Sutton Central, has criticised a decision to close Sutton Library’s Café. Ms Brothers said:
“I don’t understand why Councillor Shields should complain about cuts, when it was he and Tory colleagues who voted in support of the local Lib Dem budget.
“I’m concerned about library and SCOLA service users not having access to convenient refreshments, not whether Councillor Shields gets his breakfast.
“Visiting the café this morning I saw little evidence of an under-used facility, quite the contrary as local people chatted over tea or coffee in this vibrant community hub.
“I understand that finance is tight and the Lib Dem administration is looking at options, but I fail to see why they couldn’t have tried to engage in longer term planning much earlier – instead we get more differ and delay.”
