LABOUR’S EMILY BROTHERS PETITIONS TO OBLITERATE CHEAM’S EYESORE

THURSDAY 27th NOVEMBER

Labour’s Parliamentary Candidate for Sutton and Cheam, Emily Brothers has responded to concerns of local residents by launching a petition to obliterate Cheam’s eyesore – Victoria House. Whilst welcoming indications from Home Group that a planning application will be made in January 2015, petitioners are concerned that progress may be hindered by Ladbrokes retaining their current shop.
The petition calls on Home Group and Ladbrokes to take proactive steps to ensure the demolition of Victoria House and the adjoining shops in Cheam is undertaken without undue delay. The petition says:
“To that end, we call on the London Borough of Sutton to facilitate and expedite planning consent to regenerate this area.
“Further, we ask all parties to act in goodwill in relocating Ladbrokes, ensuring that commercial interests do not obstruct progress unreasonably.”
In launching the community-wide non-party petition, Emily Brothers said:
“Victoria House has long been recognised as an eyesore. It blights the neighbourhood and makes the Cheam Crossroads area look derelict. There is overwhelming support for the regeneration of Victoria House and the adjoining shops, to provide modern purpose built new homes and retail outlets that people need and want.”
