“Waste collection services for local businesses provided by Lib Dem Sutton Council are rubbish”, says Emily Brothers, Labour’s Parliamentary Candidate for Sutton and Cheam.
Speaking out after rubbish bags blocked pavements in the busy town centre over the weekend, Ms Brothers said:
“Failing to collect rubbish from local businesses does the ‘Enjoy Sutton’ signs an injustice. It doesn’t give visitors a positive impression as they come through the gateway to our town centre.
“The environmental hazards of rubbish strewn across the pavements and into the roads over the weekend isn’t pleasant for local residents or shoppers. It just isn’t good enough.
“Council Leader, Ruth Dombey and her Lib Dem colleagues were spotted picking up small items of litter around the area, but they would better spend their time on sorting out the larger scale mess they are making of waste management services for the borough.
“Having decided to increase Council Tax and start charging residents for green garden waste, local businesses are being failed as refuge is left on the street.
“Instead of Councillors rewarding themselves an undeserved pay rise, they could fund another Refuge Collector.”
