Sutton campaigner and Labour capital-wide Candidate for the Greater London Assembly, Emily brothers has criticised this week’s rail fare increases. She said:
“Getting to work shouldn’t be a luxury, but that is fast becoming a reality for Sutton commuters with fares increasing every year, without fail, for eight years.
“I’m really concerned that over the last 8 years to travel from Sutton to Central London costs £3,168 more for most Sutton commuters. At best from the few Zone 4 stations in the borough, like Worcester Park, the increase has been £2,730 over the same period.
“It's a rip-off. Fares go up, but services are still poor. It doesn't feel like value for money to Sutton’s commuters.
“Even worse, some have to choose between getting to work and putting food on the table by month's end. That can't be right. That’s why Labour will freeze all TfL fares - including bus, Tube and Overground - for four years at 2016 prices and introduce a new one-hour 'Hopper' bus ticket allowing multiple journeys in 60 minutes.”
