Labour’s Prospective Member of Parliament for Sutton and Cheam, Emily Brothers dismissed the visit of Lib Dem Leader, Nick Clegg, to central Sutton yesterday as a ‘cloak and dagger pass-by’. Ms Brothers said:
“I’m disappointed that Mr Clegg didn’t use this opportunity to meet with me, to express his regret about Lib Dem members intimidating behaviour when he visited St Helier Hospital recently.
“Former Lib Dem and now Independent, Councillor Nick Mattey, had the good grace to express concern and disassociate himself, but the incident has been completely dismissed by the Lib Dem Party. Indeed, Councillor Mattey wrote to his then colleagues calling for an apology and internal inquiry, but they just don’t care.
“I suspect the private meeting wasn’t extended to engaging with local people in public is because of the deep unhappiness about Lib Dem broken promises after broken promise.”
