Following the success of the first event in November 2013, which saw the inaugural TEDx talks of Everyday Sexism’s Laura Bates and anti-FGM activist Leyla Hussein, TEDxCoventGardenWomen will once again be bringing the energy of the global TEDWomen conference in Monterey to London with the second event on Saturday 30 May 2015.
Drawing together an international line-up of speakers that includes Sutton and Cheam’s Labour Prospective MP, Emily Brothers who is a blind woman with a transsexual history; together with British journalist and feminist activist Caroline Criado-Perez, Indian-American creator of anti-rape comic book ‘Priya’s Shakti’ Ram Devineni,. TEDxCoventGardenWomen promises to be a day of transformative talks by a diverse cast of gender equality commentators.

From women in tech to women in sex work, transgender politics to the poetry of peace, vivid, integral speakers will cover these and many more of today’s most pressing and deep questions affecting the lives of women and girls everywhere.

“I’m very proud to have been asked to speak at this year’s TEDxCoventGardenWomen conference.
“I’m looking forward to speaking to the audience at The London Museum, as well as on TED’s global platform.
“I’m humbled that people want to gain inspiration from my personal story. It is a narrative about resilience, change and momentum. Most of all though, it is about realising the authentic woman within me.”
Since ‘coming out’ to PinkNews in December 2014, Ms Brothers has received extensive coverage by the national press and has given landmark speeches to the Cambridge Union and Queen’s College Oxford. She is building on that engagement with TedxCoventGardenWomen.

Drawing on the unique visions and lived experiences of our diverse network of international speakers, we hope to inspire, provoke and change perspectives – as well as tell some compelling stories! From innovations and technologies to arts and cultures, we provide an inclusive, engaging and transformative platform that sheds light on different realities through ideas worth spreading.

Find your Momentum - This year, TEDxCoventGardenWomen is focused on the theme of Momentum – sharing the bold ideas that sustain motion and send waves through the way we think, work and live. From the sparks of inspiration that get us going, to the deep-rooted motivations that help us stay the path, this year’s event celebrates the moving power of momentum as a force for change.

About TEDx, x = independently organized event - In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. At a TEDx event, TED Talks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection. These local, self-organized events are branded TEDx, where x = independently organized TED event. The TED Conference provides general guidance for the TEDx program, but individual TEDx events are self-organized. (Subject to certain rules and regulations.)

About TED - TED is a non-profit organization devoted to Ideas Worth Spreading. Started as a four-day conference in California 30 years ago, TED has grown to support its mission with multiple initiatives. The two annual TED Conferences invite the world's leading thinkers and doers to speak for 18 minutes or less. Many of these talks are then made available, free, at TED.com. TED speakers have included Bill Gates, Jane Goodall, Elizabeth Gilbert, Sir Richard Branson, Nandan Nilekani, Philippe Starck, Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, Sal Khan and Daniel Kahneman.
The annual TED Conference takes place each spring in Vancouver, British Columbia, along with the TEDActive simulcast event in nearby Whistler. The annual TEDGlobal conference will be held this October in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. TED's media initiatives include TED.com, where new TED Talks are posted daily; the Open Translation Project, which provides subtitles and interactive transcripts as well as translations from volunteers worldwide; the educational initiative TED-Ed. TED has established the annual TED Prize, where exceptional individuals with a wish to change the world get help translating their wishes into action; TEDx, which supports individuals or groups in hosting local, self- organized TED-style events around the world, and the TED Fellows program, helping world-changing innovators from around the globe to amplify the impact of their remarkable projects and activities.
