In response to Lord Ashcroft’s August 2014 poll, Labour’s Parliamentary Candidate for Sutton and Cheam, Emily Brothers said:
“The next General election is not a summer holiday constituency opinion poll. It is about what government do we really want.
“Last time many people voted for Paul Burstow because they thought it would keep the Tories out. Some may still be under this misapprehension.
“Instead Paul Burstow backed Nick Clegg's coalition deal with the Tories and this led to him voting with the Tories on tuition fees and for the Health and Social Care Act, leading to privatisation. The Efford Bill in November, which I am campaigning for, aims to repeal some of the worst parts. What voters really want to know at present is how will Paul vote?
“When people are presented with a clear choice of government next May, we are likely to see a very different sort of result than this August summer holiday poll.”
