LABOUR’S EMILY BROTHERS LEAVES HOSPITAL

MONDAY 25 MAY 2015

Emily Brothers has left St George’s Hospital in South West London nearly a weeks after having triple heart bypass surgery.
Ms Brothers, Labour’s Parliamentary Candidate in Sutton and Cheam, continued to campaign in the recent General Election despite failing health. Ms Brothers was diagnosed with severe Coronary Heart Disease (CHD) earlier this year.
Professor Marjan Jahangiri, Europe’s first female Professor of Cardiac Surgery, conducted triple bypass surgery for Ms Brothers last Monday, 18 May 2015. Following a period in St George’s Intensive Care Unit, Ms Brothers was treated by the hospital’s specialist cardiology Team.
Whilst making good progress and returning to her home in Sutton over the weekend, Ms Brothers remains very weak and is not fit enough to comment at this time.
Charlie Mansell, Chair of Sutton and Cheam Labour Party, said:
“It is a very worrying time for Emily’s family and supporters, but its encouraging to see that she is making progress.
“Emily’s condition is serious and her recovery will be tough. Taking it easy will undoubtedly frustrate Emily in the coming weeks and months, but she’ll gain from a period of reflection and relaxation. We wish her well.”
