LABOUR’S EMILY BROTHERS HITS BACK AT LIB DEM DENIAL OVER RIFT WITH LOCAL CLINICIANS
THURSDAY 3 JULY 2014

Responding to denials from Councillor Ruth Dombery that a rift has arisen between Sutton Council and Clinical Commissioning Group, Labour’s Parliamentary Candidate for Sutton and Cheam, Emily Brothers, said:
“I welcome the decision not to endorse the Five Year Health Strategy for South West London at this time because it fails to address provision at ST Helier Hospital. Yet I’m astonished there aren’t ongoing discussions between the Council and the Clinical Commissioning Group outside the formal structures.
“Co-operation between the different functions would better help with the allocation of resources to Sutton from the wider South West London Budget. Instead, they are clearly working in isolation, not together for the benefit of Sutton residents. If they had been operating constructively, the Chief Clinical Officer would have been aware of Sutton’s Council’s proposed Health Prospectus which will be considered at a meeting next week.
“Frankly, instead of arguing about who sits in what deck chair, Councillor Dombey should be focused on trying to keep the NHS ship a float locally. The Lib Dem Council needs to be more proactive in trying to influence the shape of future provision and defend ST Helier Hospital.”
