Labour’s Parliamentary Candidate for Sutton and Cheam, Emily Brothers today welcomed the launch of Greenshaw High School’s re-focused themed Careers Academy in Science, Technology, Engineering and Mechanics (Stem). Attending a business breakfast at the school this morning, Ms Brothers said:
“I’m encouraged by the enthusiasm of the students who have experienced placements and mentoring over the last six years through Greenshaw High School’s accredited Careers Academy.
“I’m particularly pleased to learn about the new emphasis on science, technology, engineering and mechanics. Many careers that stem from these topic areas link well to Labour’s proposals for technical degrees.
“I’m also encouraged about the continuing success of girls at Greenshaw studying physics, maths and chemistry who are bucking the national trend.
“I hope that many more local businesses will provide opportunities, leading to more young people aspiring, accelerating and achieving in their chosen career.
“I know from my own work placement taken at the Liverpool Echo many years ago, that it provided me with an invaluable insight into the world of work. Although this didn’t lead to me becoming a journalist, it ultimately led to me being interested in how journalists might report on my political activities.”
