LABOUR’S EMILY BROTHERS CALLS ON LIB DEM’S PAUL BURSTOW TO SUPPORT A BAN ON WILD ANIMALS IN CIRCUSES
FRIDAY 15 AUGUST 2014

Labour’s Parliamentary Candidate for Sutton and Cheam, Emily Brothers has called on Lib Dem’s Paul Burstow MP to support a ban on wild animals in circuses.
Draft legislation to ban wild animals in circuses already exists, but the Government has repeatedly dragged its feet and more recently failed to include it in this year’s Queen Speech.
The Labour Party has said that it will introduce the necessary legislation to end this cruel practice.
Labour Parliamentary Candidate for Sutton and Cheam, Emily Brothers said:
“Travelling circuses are no place for wild animals.
“No travelling circus could ever provide a suitable environment or meet the particular needs of wild animals such as elephants or lions.
“That’s why I’m seeking support for Jim Fitzpatrick MP’s Ten Minute Rule Bill to put in place legislation to prohibit the use of wild animals in circuses. It will mean that Paul Burstow and his Coalition partners will need to stop dragging their feet and get on with this reform backed by people in Sutton and Cheam and already supported by a vote in the House of Commons.”
